How many stars can you count while I tie my shoes? If you say any number less than fifteen, I'll probably believe you. Even if you don't count any, but why would I tie my shoes on a beach at night? So I'll just kick them off and come count the stars with you. But what if we count some of the same ones and think there are more than there are? It's not like they're easy to tell apart, so we'll just say that there are a lot. You have nice eyes, they're blue like the ocean, but not right now. Because the ocean is only blue when the sky is blue. And the sky is only blue when the sun is up, and when the sun's up we can point and say one. But when the sun is up, we'll both be in different places.

If you can guess my middle name in three tries or less, well I'll just be really impressed. And I'll let you swim in my pool. You can swim in my pool anyway. Come on, just try, don't laugh. You should know it by now anyway. But I don't really have a pool. You didn't know that did you? I guess we've got a lot to learn about each other. Once in the third grade I had a project to build a model of a planet. But I thought they were all so cool, I couldn't decide on one. So I made the whole solar system. Yah, I was that kid. Do you remember the first time you stayed up 'till midnight? I do, because I was watching my Dad's watch, and the date went from Monday to Tuesday, right before my eyes. Then he said "See, the streets don't turn to gold. Now go to bed."

Tell me what this book makes you think of when you touch it. Be honest, it makes all the difference. My favorite constellation is one that I made up, and I'm not going to tell you how to find it. Before airplanes, traveling to Australia was a big commitment. At what proximity to lighthouses do they move from helpful to dangerous? If I had you compressed into a diamond, you wouldn't have time to give me your opinion on me doing that to you. So tell me while you still can. When we meet in Alaska, it will be summer. We'll be sitting at opposite tables in a diner, facing each other. You're going to order a hamburger, medium-rare, with a side of sweet potato fries. I'll just be having coffee, I'll get up and come over, and ask to use your sugar, but I won't use it. You'll say, "don't I know you from somewhere?" "If you don't know, then how should I know?" Then we'll go for a walk down a dirt road hoping to see penguins. I'll trace a penguin in the stars, but you won't be able to see it. That will be my favorite constellation, but maybe it will just not be meant to be.
